A Japanese Experience.

I've decided to begin a new foray into the world of blogging, this time I'm going to try out different foods I eat. Starting out with...

Takoyaki! Otherwise known as Octopus Balls. I ate these delights at a fantastic authentic Japanese snack shop called Manpuku in downtown Toronto. They came with the traditional sauces and seasonings, the most noteworthy being Bonito flake. This topping actually moves around when it comes into contact with heat! I know, pretty freaky, I can't help but think I'm eating a mouthful of twitchy bugs! You get over it though, and once you do those Takoyaki won't be able to stay on the plate.

I also ordered myself a bowl of delicious Niku Udon, or Beef Udon. Everything about it was so tasty! I find myself craving more of it! Usually when I eat Udon I get a little grossed out by the thickness of the noodles but eating this bowl was like eating different noodles altogether. They were made so well and the broth was A+!

My friend had something known as 'Ochazuke', I actually hadn't heard of it until we sat down and she ordered it. It's as it looks, a bowl of broth with two grilled riceballs inside! I personally couldn't tell you what it tastes' like but I was told it was yummy.

After we left I decided to return and grab myself some riceballs to go! They were cheap and made for a great snack on the bus ride home. It was also really interesting trying authentic riceballs as I make my own at home. These were completely covered in seaweed and had just a hint of Tuna in the center. They even had instructions on how to properly open the packaging! And of course, they were yummy!

Manpuku was a great Japanese experience, I'm usually used to eating just sushi when it comes to eating out Japanese but I'm so glad I opened my palate to these types of snack foods. I totally plan on returning to get myself some more Takoyaki and Udon!
